WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

Assessment, then a plan.

01

Initial assessment

An adult assessment typically takes two 45-minute appointments; child and adolescent assessments usually require one or two additional appointments.

02

Plan next steps

After the assessment, we decide together what kind of care makes sense and whether ongoing treatment with me is appropriate.

ABOUT THE INITIAL ASSESSMENT

A thoughtful evaluation before treatment.

During the initial assessment, we review what brings you in, how the problem developed, relevant psychiatric and medical history, prior treatment and current medications, and how the problem is affecting daily life. Depending on the situation, we may also discuss development, family, school, work, relationships, sleep, and other factors that may be contributing.

The goal is to understand the problem clearly enough to decide whether a diagnosis fits and what treatment options make sense.

For children and adolescents, information from parents, caregivers, schools, or other clinicians may also be helpful.

I do not prescribe medication at the first appointment. Treatment decisions follow the initial assessment.

If we continue working together after the assessment, I remain your treating psychiatrist.
